Importing to the EU Without Structure Is Costly

Cross-border trade into the EU requires a properly structured legal entity. Operating without one creates customs, tax, and regulatory exposure.

🚢
No EORI, no entry Without an EU-registered EORI number, your goods cannot clear customs. Shipments blocked, operations halted.
⚠️
VAT import liabilities Incorrect VAT treatment on imports creates retroactive tax exposure and penalties across multiple jurisdictions.
🌍
CBAM carbon border obligations The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism introduces new reporting requirements for specific imported goods starting 2026.
📋
No importer of record EU regulations require an EU-established entity as importer of record. Non-EU companies cannot act as direct importers.

Trade & Import FAQ

Can a non-EU company import goods directly into the EU?
A non-EU company can import goods into the EU, but typically must work through an EU-established customs representative or have its own EU entity — depending on the operational model and customs procedure. A Polish sp. z o.o. gives you a fully compliant EU entity that can act as the direct importer, handle customs declarations, and manage VAT on imports — without relying on third-party intermediaries.
What is EORI and why do I need it?
EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) is a unique number required for all customs operations in the EU. Without it, you cannot import or export goods. We register your EORI as part of the company formation process — it is included in both packages.
What is CBAM and does it affect my imports?
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an EU regulation requiring importers to report — and eventually pay for — the carbon content of specific goods (steel, cement, aluminium, electricity, fertilisers, hydrogen). Reporting obligations started in 2023, with financial obligations phasing in from 2026. If you import affected goods, your company needs a CBAM-compliant reporting framework.
How is VAT handled on imports?
Import VAT is charged when goods enter the EU. In Poland, most importers can use the reverse charge mechanism on imports, meaning VAT is reported in the declaration rather than paid upfront at the border. This significantly improves cash flow for trading businesses.
Can I distribute goods to other EU countries from Poland?
Yes. Intra-EU trade between member states is duty-free. Once goods are imported and cleared through Polish customs, they can be sold and shipped across all 27 EU member states under standard intra-community supply rules with zero customs duties.
Do I need to visit Poland?
No. Company formation, EORI registration, VAT setup, and ongoing compliance are all handled 100% remotely. You do not need to visit Poland at any point.
Do you handle customs clearance?
No. We provide the legal entity, EORI registration, VAT framework, and all corporate documentation required for customs operations — but physical customs clearance and brokerage are handled by a licensed customs agent. If you need one, we can provide a referral to trusted partners we work with.
What ongoing obligations does a trading company have?
Monthly VAT declarations, JPK reporting, annual financial statements, KRS court filings, and — depending on your goods — CBAM reporting. When your intra-EU trade volumes exceed statutory thresholds, Intrastat declarations become mandatory — we handle these as an additional service. Our base compliance program starts from €350/month.
